President of Sri Lanka Begins State Visit in Cambodia

Phnom Penh, August 07, 2019 --H.E. Maithripala Sirisena, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and his spouse started today their four-day state visit in Cambodia, at the invitation of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.
The Sri Lankan leaders and their entourage arrived in Phnom Penh this morning and were warmly welcomed upon their arrival at the airport by Samdech Chaufea Veang Kong Som Ol, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace and H.E. Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information, Minister-in-attendance, and many other high-ranking officials.
According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during his stay in the Kingdom from Aug. 7 to 10, 2019, President Maithripala Sirisena will have a royal audience with His Majesty the King of Cambodia at the Royal Palace.
President Maithripala Sirisena will also have a meeting with Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, during which various fields of bilateral cooperation will be discussed, aiming to further strengthen friendly ties between the two countries which are deeply connected through Buddhism. The two Leaders will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern and interest.
Following this meeting, President Maithripala Sirisena and Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen will witness the signing of a number of cooperation documents.
Besides, President Maithripala Sirisena will visit Wat Lanka Preah Kosamaram and present to the Most Venerable Samdech Preah Maha Ariyavamsa Sao Chanthol a sapling of the sacred Wijaya Sri Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. Subsequently, he will attend Na-Tree Planting ceremony at the Meditation Centre of Oudong Mountain which received a gift of 10 Na Trees from the President. President Maithripala Sirisena and members of his delegation will also visit temples in the Angkor Archeological Park, Siem Reap province.
H.E. President of Sri Lanka’s first visit to Cambodia will significantly strengthen the bonds of friendship and expand cooperation in economic, trade, tourism and cultural fields between Cambodia and Sri Lanka.
